Chongqing Medical University and the Faculty of Medical Sciences of the University of the West Indies held a video conference on exchanges and cooperation

In order to enhance exchanges and cooperation between Chongqing Medical University (CQMU) and the University of the West Indies (UWI), Barbados, the Foreign Affairs Office (FAO) of CQMU and the Faculty of Medical Sciences (FMS) of the University of the West Indies held a video conference on March 16, 2021. Attending the meeting were Ms. Wang Yu, Director of FAO CQMU, Ms. Zhang Mi, Administrative Manager, FAO CQMU, Dr. Peter Adams, Dean of FMS UWI, Dr. Damian Cohall, Deputy Dean of Pre-Clinical Sciences, FMS UWI, Dr. Zhang Qunxia, head of the Fifth Chinese Medical Team in Barbados, and Dr. Liu Hong, member of the team. Mr. David Bulbulia, head of the Confucius Institute at UWI, presided over the meeting.


During the meeting, both sides introduced their respective development and had in-depth discussions on student exchange, faculty exchange and scientific research cooperation. Ms. Wang Yu said that the members of the Fifth Chinese Medical Team in Barbados are mostly excellent faculty members of CQMU and its affiliated hospitals. She suggested that to make full use of the resources of the Chinese Medical Team, team members could give lectures for and do academic exchange with faculties and students at FMS, and carry out clinical training at hospital in Barbados, thus cultivating an excellent medical team for the locals. She sincerely invited the leadership, teachers and students of the UWI to visit Chongqing after the pandemic and to participate in cultural, academic and clinical activities.

Dr. Adams expressed his willingness to conduct joint doctoral training and physician training programs as well as collaborative research in cardiovascular diseases and patient care with CQMU.

The meeting enhanced mutual understanding between the two universities with a number of consensus on cooperation, which laid a solid foundation for further exchanges and cooperation between the two sides.


Founded in 1948, the University of the West Indies is located in the Caribbean with three main campuses in Mona (Jamaica), St. Augustine (Trinidad and Tobago), and Cave Hill (Barbados). Its Faculty of Medical Sciences, located at the Cave Hill campus in Barbados, cultivates medical professionals for the Caribbean. CQMU and UWI (Cave Hill Campus) established partner relationship in May 2020.
